The Weatherford College Teacher Certification Program finished the 2010-2011 school year with its students scoring a 100 percent passing rate on all certification tests. “Individuals certifying to teach in Texas must pass two tests: an exam over the subject they will teach (Math, English, History, etc.) and one over education topics such as human growth and development; educational psychology; curriculum; instructional methods; assessment; classroom management and public school procedures,” said Dr. Joyce Pages, director of WC education and teacher certification. The 30 most recent completers of the WC TCP passed these tests on the first attempt. In addition, some students earned “nearly perfect scores,” said Pages. WC’s TCP offers individuals holding a bachelor’s degree or higher the opportunity to certify to teach middle school and high school. Middle school certificates include English language arts and reading; English language arts and reading/social studies; generalist; mathematics; mathematics/science; science and social studies. In addition, high school certificates are available in English language arts and reading; history; life sciences; mathematics; physical sciences; physics / mathematics; science; social studies; speech and technology applications. Certificates for grades 6-12 include agricultural science and technology; business education; family and consumer sciences and technology education. All-level certificates (for early childhood through 12th grade) are available in health; physical education; special education and technology applications. The deadline for applying for admission to the spring cohort at the College is Nov. 18.
