Weatherford College Coyote Area Seventh Math Championship: The Tradition Continues
Students from area high schools, as well as from private high schools and home-schools, are invited to participate in Weatherford College's annual Weatherford College Coyote Area Math Championship again this year. The Weatherford College mathematics faculty have sponsored and administrated this contest since Spring 2003, with the hope of fostering recognition for student accomplishments in the field of mathematics studies.
Excelling in Mathematics, the seventh annual event, is scheduled for February 9, 2009. Entry is limited to the first 20 teams.
The format will be as in the past:
- Students compete in team and individual events in either the Gold or Black Division. The Black Division contest problems include high school math concepts with some problems based on calculus; the Gold Division problems include no calculus problems.
- Mathematics faculty and contest officials tally test results while students have lunch and enjoy an informative and entertaining address on the practical use of mathematics presented by area mathematicians.
- Immediately following, awards are presented to the winning teams thanks to generous donations and sponsorships from businesses and individuals that help make the event more attractive for the participants.
