ALPINE, TX
– So far, this new college rodeo season is all about the women from Weatherford.

For the second straight week, the WC women’s team came home with the team championship, this time from the Sul Ross State University Rodeo Sept. 30 – Oct. 2. It’s believed to be the first time the WC women’s team has won the championship at consecutive events.

WC finished with 558 points, 233 ahead of the second- place team, Tarleton State University. WC also won the overall women’s title the week prior at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales.

Tyesha Oppenheimer helped the cause by winning the All-Around Cowgirl title. The Redmond, UT native won the goat tying event by dominating both rounds. She also took third overall in barrel racing.

Savannah Todd won third in breakaway roping and tied for fourth in goat tying. Cadee Tew tied for fourth in team roping.

On the men’s side, Stinnett, TX native Reese Reimer won a share of the calf roping champion- ship, coming from behind in the short go to tie for first with Chase Williams of Tarleton.

The next Southwest Region rodeo is closer to home, in Vernon Oct. 7 – 9.
