Weatherford College's Mineral Wells Education Center opened its doors and facilities to the 24th Annual North Central Texas Area Fire Protection School the weekend of Oct. 17 and 18. About 310 students representing 81 different cities attended, from as far away as Galveston and with a number of students and instructors coming from the Texas Panhandle. All available classrooms were pressed into service to accommodate the large number of classes offered at this school, as well as the truck driving course, utilized as students practiced driving fire apparatus.
The NCTA Fire Protection school is headquartered at the nearby Mineral Wells Student Activity Center making the Education Center in the Wolters Industrial Park the perfect setting for classroom instruction. The school also utilizes the facilities of the Mineral Wells Fire Training Field and the Lake Mineral Wells State Park.
This school is a part of the system of "Area Fire Schools" conducted by TEEX, a part of the Texas A&M University System and is reported to be the second largest area school in Texas, falling just behind Lubbock Area School.
