In a special called meeting Monday, the Weatherford College Board of Trustees revised an employee leave policy and proposed the 2010 ad valorem tax rate. Approved revisions to the employee leave policy now allow an employee to carry over 120 hours or 15 days’ accrued unused vacation time from one fiscal year to the next. Previously, the limit was 80 hours or 10 days. Additionally, employees funded by grants will now be allowed to carry over unused vacation days under the same procedures. Set to be approved at Thursday’s called meeting, the proposed ad valorem tax rate for 2010 remains the same as 2009 at 10.492 cents per $100 valuation. If the proposed rate is approved, 2010 will be the College’s seventh consecutive year without a tax increase. “The proposed tax rate will not generate the same amount of money for the College in 2010 that the same rate generated in 2009,” Vice President of Financial Affairs Andra Cantrell said. “That would have required a rate of 10.73 cents. To avoid a tax rate increase (as the board desired), we may need to use approximately $160,000 of our reserve funds to balance the budget in 2010.” The next scheduled meeting for the WC Board of Trustees is Thursday, Aug. 19, 2 p.m., when it is expected to approve the 2010-11 budget and set the 2010 tax rate.
