Weatherford College is experiencing another large enrollment increase this semester, up 12 percent compared to spring of 2009. On the 12th day of classes, the official census or "count" day for colleges across the state, total enrollment stood at 5,124. The majority - 3,545 - attend the Weatherford campus. Headcount at WC Wise County is 400, a 10 percent increase. Mineral Wells Education Center posted a 27 percent increase with118 students. More than 1,100 students are enrolled for classes on campus and online, and 412 are taking only online courses. Other noteworthy enrollment statistics:
"Community colleges have seen record growth nationwide, but as the economy begins to recover, we believe that the enrollment increases at community colleges will begin to slow," said Dr. Kevin Eaton, WC president. "However, we could still see double-digit growth over the next biennium. With lower tuition and superior instructors, Weatherford College has always been a great starting point for area students. I would not be surprised to see WC surpass 6,000 students during the fall 2010 registration cycle."
