At its annual Faculty Appreciation Dinner May 15, Weatherford College administration recognized its entire faculty for "another exceptional year," said Dr. Don Tomas, senior vice president of instruction and student affairs, and singled out one as the Faculty Member of the Year.

Dr. Rickey Harman, mathematics instructor, was named 2009 Faculty Member of the Year. Harman, who has been with WC since 2003, earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from West Texas A&M University and a doctorate in higher education form Texas Tech University. Previously, he served as superintendent at both Abilene Christian School and Lubbock Christian University.

As the Faculty Member of the Year, Harman received the $1,000 Gayle and Wanda Grant Teaching Excellence Award from the WC Foundation, along with airfare for two to the destination of his choice.

Additionally, five instructors were recognized as recipients of the Excellence in Teaching awards, sponsored by the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development for teaching and leadership excellence: Ann Marshall, program coordinator for Success Connection; Dr. Glenn Schlee, instructor, mathematics; Rebecca Weaver, mathematics instructor at the Decatur Education Center; Tonya Edwards, department chair, Allied Health, and Ken Logan, computer science instructor.


NISOD is the outreach vehicle and service arm to the Community College Leadership Program at The University of Texas at Austin and is dedicated to the professional development of faculty, administrators and staff and to the continued improvement of teaching and learning. Honorees are recommended by their home institutions and selected for their engaging and inspirational teaching methods.
