This synopsis is intended as a brief overview of some actions taken by the Weatherford College Board of Trustees at its regularly scheduled January meeting and is for general informational purposes only. This abbreviated summary is not intended to represent or reflect all discussion and action taken by the board at this meeting. Specific details outlining all action taken by the board are recorded in the official Board Meeting Minutes, prepared and maintained by the College President's Office.

At its regular monthly meeting Jan. 14, the Weatherford College Board of Trustees unanimously approved the extension of Dr. Joe Birmingham's contract as president through August 2011.

The motion, made by Trustee Jean Bryan and seconded by Trustee Tom Novak, ratified the motion of the intent to renew the contract passed by the board at its December meeting.

Birmingham has been WC president since August 2005. The extended contract's term is for Aug. 1, 2009, through Aug. 31, 2011.

Additionally, the board formally approved the sale of WC property to the City of Weatherford to allow the construction of B.B. Fielder Road West that will cross College property and connect to Hwy. 51 South.

In other action in its regular meeting, the board also:

  1. Heard the Quarterly Investment Report for the period ending Nov. 30, 2008;
  2. Heard a report from Vice President of Financial and Administrative Affairs Andra Cantrell that the cash balance as of Nov. 30, 2008, was $17,931,052; total revenues are $12,302,145; total expenditures are $9,727,580 and investments are just over $15 million;
  3. Upheld the decisions made at a recent Level III employee grievance hearing, regarding Bob McKinley, kinesiology instructor and women's basketball coach;
  4. Heard a brief report on the planning process for Fiscal Year 2009-2010 budget and
  5. Heard a brief report on the proposed tuition and fee schedule for 2009-10 and was told a detailed proposal will be presented for board review in February, with expected action to be taken at the March meeting.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the WC Board of Trustees is Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009.
