Brent Baker, Weatherford College vice president of Institutional Advancement, presented the prestigious Carlos Hartnett Award to Mrs. Marjorie Kimbrough Nome at the annual WC Foundation Scholarship Donor Appreciation dinner last week. The award, established in 1997 and named for WC's first development officer, is given to a citizen who encourages others, by word and by example, to give from their abundance for the benefit of Weatherford College.

The award, established in 1997 and named for WC's first development officer, is given to a citizen who encourages others, by word and by example, to give from their abundance for the benefit of Weatherford College.

In his presentation of the award to Mrs. Dome, Brent Baker, WC vice president of Institutional Advancement and executive director of the Foundation, said, "Marjorie married a proud Weatherford College alumnus, O.L. Kimbrough, and as a couple, they began supporting scholarships and other Weatherford College projects with gifts to the Foundation at least 15 years ago. They helped fund the installation of decorative lamp posts on campus, and provided beautiful new flags for the Alkek Fine Arts Center."

Additionally, the honoree donated $10,000 to establish a scholarship in 2004, and she has continued to support scholarships at WC with annual gifts of $5,000 in recent years. Marjorie, now with her husband Tom Dome, has contributed $30,000 to this Foundation scholarship in the last five years.

"This type of annual support is unusual for our college, but I also find it extraordinary that Marjorie has continued to support O.L.'s Alma Mater after his passing, and that she does it from a distance," said Baker. "That tells me that she and Tom understand the importance of higher education - her commitment to scholarships is truly encouraging others, by word and by deed, to give."

Previous winners of the Carlos Hartnett Award are Mark Littleton, 1997; I.B. Hand, 1998; Jack Borden, 1999; Roy Grogan, 2000; Jerry Durant, 2001; Dorothy Doss, 2002; Dr. Jim Boyd, 2003-04; Joe Tison, 2005-06; Jean Bryan, 2007; and Eddie Kidd, 2008.

As the Carlos Hartnett Award recipient, Dome received a plaque, and her name will be engraved on a granite plaque at the entrance of the Alkek Fine Arts Center.

The WC Foundation, established in 1978, is an independent charitable foundation with the mission of supporting Weatherford College and its students.
